Bull Prep

We’re back around to that time of year again!

The bulls are now between 16-18 months old and have begun their preparation for the 2020 sale with carcase scanning, freeze branding and the first round of vaccinations. Consequently, we have been able to have a very close look at them and are getting close to picking a sale team.

The second half of 2019 has been very kind to us here in Manypeaks and the bulls have benefited enormously. This year the bulls averaged a weight of 582kg on the 14th of October which was the same average weight as last years ‘N’ group when we weighed them on the 19th of November 2018. For the 5 months leading up to this weigh date 30 of the bulls averaged over 2kg/day off ryegrass and clover pastures!

The bloodline to look out for this year is again Granite Ridge Kaiser K26. Kaisers sons averaged over $10,000 at our 2019 sale and this year he has produced another exceptional draft of sons to pick from including the two pictured below.

  • Deer Valley Patriot 3222

  • Wattletop Franklin G188

  • LD Capitalist 316

  • Karoo Knockout K176

We have also been impressed with bulls by our own Koojan Hills sires particularly sons by Koojan Hills M35.

All Koojan Hills bulls will again be vaccinated as part of the Zoetis Star Breeder program. This year we will also be including a vaccination to prevent Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis (IBR). IBR is the most common clinical syndrome associated with Bovine herpesvirus-1 (BHV-1) infection in Australian cattle herds.
